We are Lexcel accredited and also hold the Conveyancing Quality Scheme accreditation. We have a strong expertise in Private Client work, including Wills, Probate, Mental Capacity and Trusts. In addition, we carry out Residential and Commercial Property work, Family, Personal Injury, Litigation and Financial Services work and we have a specialist Regulatory team carrying out work on behalf of the SRA.

Shacklocks are committed to training the next generation of lawyers; our recently qualified solicitors all trained with the Firm and 2 of our 4 Partners also trained with the Firm. 

About You: Shacklocks are looking for people with a strong connection to the geographical areas in which we are based in North Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, a commitment to those communities and an ambition to develop a legal career in those areas.  Successful candidates will be required to demonstrate a commitment to the Firm’s values and the work types we practise. As you will be required to travel between the offices and to clients business or homes, a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.

The successful candidates will have achieved a 2:2 degree or equivalent and have passed the LPC or expect to have passed the LPC by summer 2019.

You will be required to demonstrate a courteous, professional approach to clients and colleagues, and the ability to use appropriate language, vocabulary and tone in all communications.

You will have an appreciation of the importance of client care and client satisfaction and of the issues relating to the financial management of a legal practice.

You will be able to work efficiently and to prioritise and manage your work effectively to required timescales and deadlines, often when there are competing demands. You will understand the importance of managing colleague and client expectations.

You will be flexible and able to work effectively in a team.

You will have an understanding of the importance of Compliance with our professional rules and legal obligations, including those relating to confidentiality and conflict of interest. You will be able to follow instructions, rules and procedures and have attention to detail.

You will have a knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Internet Explorer or equivalent.

About the Role: As a Paralegal and Trainee Solicitor with Shacklocks you can expect the role to be varied and demanding. It is likely you will spend time in our Private Client or Regulatory departments and with our contentious team assisting with Family, Personal Injury or Litigation work. You may also be required to work in our Property or Financial Services departments. You may be based at any one of our offices. Typical tasks might include:

* Meeting with clients in the office, at clients’ place of business or at home, making attendance notes, advising clients and carrying out agreed work following the meeting.

* Making or taking telephone calls to clients, the court, financial institutions or other third parties; dealing with incoming enquiries.

* Dealing with incoming and outgoing post, preparing or drafting documents, management of documents, scanning and archiving. 

* Attending court with colleagues or Counsel, preparing court documents.

* Assisting the accounts department or working with the Financial Services team.

* Legal research, preparation of advice and reports.

* Time recording, general office duties and other administration tasks
