Simplifying Your Affairs

Sometimes the way you invest can have a profound effect on the future management of your estate.

Whilst we would always recommend that a portfolio is well spread – avoiding the ‘eggs in one basket' trap, we see many portfolios that are in need of a spring clean. Typically shares acquired over many years, possibly through flotations and government sell-offs will have gone through many incarnations amid a confusing array of bonus issues, reinvested dividends and so on. Add to this a few changes of name along the way and the confusion continues.

This can be particularly bewildering where the person who has taken most interest in the investments has died or is no longer able to look after their affairs. In those circumstances the loved one left behind may have little experience of or appetite for investment.

If your portfolio is too confusing lets us share your thoughts. If we can't help we will tell you so.
