Promotions at Shacklocks LLP

02.04.2025

Shacklocks are delighted to announce the appointment of two new Partners. Thomas Slack and Ben Edwards became Partners on 1st April 2025, having joined the Firm as Paralegals, and progressed through a rigorous training contract to qualify as solicitors in 2016 and 2019, respectively.

Tom, a Mansfield local, works in the Firm’s Private Client team, where he advises on Wills, Probate, Intestacy and Estate Administration, with a focus on complex family situations. Tom is a member of STEP, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and has a particular experience in advising clients about trusts, creating and administering trusts, and TRS Trust Registration.

Ben also works in the Firm’s Private Client team. Ben has a particular interest in the difficult and growing area of mental capacity, having developed his experience advising deputies and attorneys, preparing deputyship applications, administering deputyships, preparing and administering Lasting Powers of Attorney, and acting as attorney for clients who want the benefit of a professional attorney. Ben is a ‘Dementia Friend’, an initiative of the Alzheimer's Society.

Marion Vesey, Managing Partner of Shacklocks LLP, who recruited Ben and Tom ten years ago or more, says that she is thrilled for them. “It is so rewarding to see solicitors whom we have trained go on to qualify with us, develop their knowledge and expertise, and become Partners of the firm. This achievement reflects the commitment and dedication that both Tom and Ben have shown to the firm, to their careers, and to their clients who have regularly returned for our help and advice.”

These promotions are part of the Firm’s Progression Framework which recognises achievement in a number of areas including legal expertise, financial performance, commitment and application, and client satisfaction, and offers a structured framework and opportunity for career progression to all our qualified staff.

If you have questions about Wills, Trusts, Probate, Intestacy or Estate Administration or issues involving questions of Mental Capacity, you can contact Tom and Ben on 01623 626141, 01773 822333, or 01332 559281.
